Welcome to the 27th Season of San Francisco Bay Area guitar concerts!

The 2007-2008 season will bring us 22 artists in 11 very special performances. The phenomenal Japanese virtuoso Kazuhito Yamashita returns to the Herbst Theatre. He is bringing his three prodigiously musical children who will join him in a guitar quartet written especially for the Yamashita family. Renowned maestro Angel Romero will make his long awaited series debut, and Manuel Barrueco returns with a program highlighting his impeccable technique and deep musicality. We will present two new duos for the first time in the Bay Area, SOLODUO featuring Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela from Italy and Duo Melis, the brilliant French based ensemble. Also making area concert debuts with us next season will be an astounding artist from Canada, Remi Boucher and prize winner in the SF Masters Competition, Flavio Sala from Italy. Xue Fei Yang, the worldÕs premier Chinese guitarist will perform at the Herbst Theatre and French composer, arranger and musical wizard Roland Dyens will perform in the beautiful concert hall at the San Francisco Conservatory of MusicÕs new location in the Civic Center.

I am sure that one of the highlights of the season will be the Acoustic Guitar Summit, a weekend showcasing some of the finest acoustic guitarists in the world. Friday evening, in the culturally rich environment of the Brava Theater we will feature performances by the International Guitar Night which includes DÕGary, from Madagascar; Clive Carroll, from England, flamenco guitarist Miguel de la Bastide and San FranciscoÕs own Brian Gore. Saturday night in the Palace of Fine Arts we are bringing back one of our favorite performers, from Australia, the incomparable Tommy Emmanuel. Sharing the bill with Tommy will be the 2006 Grammy winner from Nashville, Bryan Sutton and his duo partner Russ Barenberg.
